This is why I went to PAX EAST.
I got to meet the guys behind the localization of some of my favorite video games: Alexander O. Smith, and Joseph Reeder. They have worked on amazing games like Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions, Final Fantasy 12 (My Favorite), Parasite Eve II, and many others like Phoenix Wright.
They shared with us how localization used to be in the late 90’s. It was horrible: Japanese game companies saw localization as something to quickly and cheaply get out of the way; ever wonder why FFVII has spelling errors? That whole game was done by one guy in three months! WTF?! 
I was able to get their signatures and talk them for about an hour with a group of avid fans that are thankful for their tireless work. People think it’s weird when I get excited about a game’s writing and I mention localization; but I got to shake hands with the people who helped make some of my favorite games, who’s stories affected me on some way. 
Also, they told me what they are working on now; translating the novelization of ICO. You better believe I’ll be getting that when it comes out; which is supposed to be around when the HD remakes of ICO & Shadow of the Colossus are released. :D
